Rawlingses lose case

An Accra Regional Tribunal last Friday quashed an Accra Circuit Tribunal’s conviction of Mr. & Mrs. Djentuh which culminated in the incarceration of the two for a week pending final judgment.

The Rawlingses brought the suit before the Circuit Tribunal last year against Mr. and Mrs. Djentuh on charges of assault and deceit of public officers.

The tribunal chaired by Mrs. Anderson Yeboah convicted the Djentuh’s and remanded the two (Mr. and Mrs.) for a week before the delivery of the final judgment. The final judgment was out on hold till last Friday.

At last Friday’s sitting, the Tribunal hearing the appeal brought by the Djentuh’s against the sentence by the Circuit Tribunal, described the judgment as “bogus” and lacking merit.

Delivering his address, Tribunal Chairman, Justice Duosey said, it was shameful for some people in authority to consider themselves as above the law and therefore can take the law into their own hands.

According to the tribunal chairman, the action of the castle security to detain Selassie Djentuh at the castle without sending him to the police station amounted to criminal abduction.

Justice Duosey said there were discrepancies in the evidence given by the prosecution witnesses, saying the earlier judgment was a big flaw.

Speaking to journalists after the judgment, free kissing Mr. and Mrs. Djentuh expressed their delight at the decision of the court.

Maria O’Sullivan Djentuh, an estate developer said “Our God is faithful, who delivers the righteous from the pit of the wicked,” adding the family knew it was not guilty, but they were cheated by the judgment of the Circuit Tribunal .

To her, by the judgment of the Regional Tribunal, the Rawlingses owe the Djentuhs a big apology saying, “We treated the children of the Rawlingses with love and affection but they paid us back with wickedness.”

On his part, Anthony Kofi Mensah Djentuh, said those in power should be wary of hungers on who come to deceive them saying, “people in places of authority should curb their emotions in dealing with others.”

Mr. Djentuh said, “those whose agenda is to destroy the Djentuh family are fighting the Jehovah God, their threats and machinations against their lives will not yield anything,” adding, “they are inviting curses upon their heads to the fourth generation”.

It will be recalled that in March 2000, Selassie Djentuh, son of the Djentuhs was arrested by some security personnel on a piece of land belonging to his mother at Okpeegono and sent to the Castle (the sit of government).

The parents who rushed to the Castle to demand the release of their son got engaged in a scuffle with the security agencies.
