Chairman Wontumi was seated in his car as the man believed to be a pastor prayed for him
A video of a man believed to be a pastor praying for the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, ahead of his court proceedings on Thursday, November 27, 2025, has courted some outrage on social media, particularly on X.
Chairman Wontumi is currently standing trial for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities through his Akonta Mining firm, which has been accused of polluting rivers and degrading the environment.
Ahead of the proceedings, he was captured being prayed for while seated in his car before stepping out to enter the courtroom.
Dressed in a white Lacoste shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers, Wontumi was later seen shaking hands with a lawyer believed to be part of his legal team.

The video has drawn sharp criticisms online.
Many social media users questioned why prayers should be offered for someone accused of destroying natural resources and communities.
Others argued that the supposed man of God was seeking attention or financial gain by publicly praying for Wontumi.
One user wrote: “Ghana dier everything go turn scene. Even court entrance sef get prayer session.”
Another user commented on the post, saying “Somebody steal money, destroy your vegetation, pollute your water, show it in your face the stolen money but yeah see some pastor trying to pray just because he will get an envelope of 5k before he leaves.”
One other commenter, who believed the pastor was unaware of Wontumi’s case, also questioned the act;
“Does the pastor even know the reason Wontumi is there in the first place? Does he know the charges pressed against him ?? Smh... Stomach direction pastors...”
