Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo has been suspended for two weeks
The suspended Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to doctors and other staff of the facility to return to work and continue providing healthcare services to patients.
In a letter addressed to the staff of the hospital facility dated Monday, June 8, 2026, following his suspension, Dr Baidoo expressed appreciation for the support shown to him during the period.

His appeal comes after doctors at the hospital declared an industrial action in response to developments surrounding his suspension.
The suspended CEO thanked members of staff for standing by him and urged them to put the interest of patients first while allowing the appropriate authorities to address the matter.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all staff of the hospital for your show of solidarity with me during this period. I am very grateful for your support," the letter read.
He further called on the staff to resume work and leave the matter in the hands of the Minister of Health and the hospital's governing board.
"However, I need you all to return back to duty in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and our valued patients, whilst I defer the outcome and directions to the supreme wisdom of the Hon. Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), and the Board of KATH," he stated.
Dr Baidoo, in his letter, reaffirmed his commitment to the cause of President John Dramani Mahama while urging calm and a return to normalcy at the hospital.
"I remain committed to the cause of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana," he added.
The controversy began after the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, ordered the suspension of the KATH CEO for two weeks in a letter dated June 5, 2026.
The directive followed a decision by hospital management on June 3, 2026, to temporarily halt the admission of emergency cases due to overwhelming pressure at the Accident and Emergency Centre.
Hospital authorities had explained that the measure was necessary because the facility was operating beyond capacity, with the emergency unit facing a surge in referrals from several regions across the middle and northern parts of the country.
As one of Ghana's largest referral hospitals, KATH provides specialist care to patients from more than eight regions.
The suspension sparked opposition from doctors at the facility.
In response, the Komfo Anokye branch of the Ghana Medical Association declared an indefinite strike and called for the immediate reinstatement of the CEO.

The doctors also demanded the development of clear guidelines to govern situations where hospitals are unable to accommodate additional emergency cases due to capacity constraints.
Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus has called for the reversal of the suspension of Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo.
