Recalcitrant teachers to be dismissed

Ntanaaso (B/A), June 15, GNA - Mr Enoch Osei-Sarfo, acting District Director of Education, Nkoranza, has cautioned that the Ghana Education Service (GES) would not countenance recalcitrant teachers, whose activiti es would negatively affect the education and well-being of school children. He sternly warned that teachers found drunk during school hours woul d be severely dealt with or if necessary dismissed.

Mr. Osei-Sarfo gave the warning when he addressed a Parent Teacher Association meeting at Ntanaaso, in the Nkoranza South District. He noted that alcoholism had become a major contributory factor that

had led to truancy on the part of some teachers in the district, and advi sed teachers to live above reproach since they were seen as role models in th e communities they served.

Mr. Osei-Sarfo deplored the negative activities of some parents who go along with their children to farm during school days, to the detriment of

their education. Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive , appealed to parents to enrol all their school-going children in schools. He assured the community that they would be included in the next pha se of the school feeding programme to lessen the burden of parents, and also

sustain the children in school. He underscored the importance for parents to channel their resources

into the education of their children, so that they would grow to become assets to the state. Mr Agyekum called on teachers to live exemplary lives to command respect from the people. Mr Kwaku Awuah-Tutu, Nkoranza District Assistant Director of Educati on in-charge of school inspection, advised school management committees and community leaders to arrange accommodation facilities for the teachers, t o sustain their interest in serving the communities.

Nana Yaw Donkor, Chief of the area, advised parents to join hands wi th teachers to bring up the children properly. In a welcoming address, Mr. Michael Armstrong Bakang, Head teacher o f the school, complained about the lack of accommodation for teachers.
