Former Accra Hearts of Oak player Don Bortey has called on Coach Kwesi Appiah and the Ghana Football Association to recall suspended duo Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng into the national team.

According to him, although the two were suspended for disciplinary reasons, the coach should overlook their so-called “arrogant” conduct and re-invite them to the Ghana squad if he wants results.

He noted that the Pescara and UD Las Palmas midfielders were good materials and should, therefore, be punished in some other way for their misconduct at the last World Cup Brazil instead of being suspended from the team. In his view their bonuses could be slashed as a sanction.

“They should recall Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng,” he told Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier) on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM.

“I don’t know what they did that they say they don’t respect, but if you say someone is disrespectful but the person is good at what he does, call him to the team and let him use his disrespectful nature to get the job done for you, because at the end of the day you want results,” he added.

Don Bortey debunked assertions that Boateng and Muntari, if kept in the team, would corrupt the other players. “They cannot influence any of the other payers because they are all old enough to make their own decisions,” added Don Bortey who led Hearts of Oak to successive league wins over a decade ago.

He called on the returnee coach to give the duo a call up if he wants the national team to go further in future competitions.

“Sulley has played the national team from the U-17, so he knows everything about Ghana football. I don’t know why he slapped someone and I don’t think he just got up without any provocation to slap him. Something might have happened… So to Kwesi Appiah, if you want results, forget about what has happened, call them and advise them. If he had spoken to them and kept them in the team, Ghana would have advanced in many competitions,” he stated.
