General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the manner in which the PDS concession agreement was done proves that the Akufo-Addo administration is fraught with corruption.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr Asiedu Nketia noted that the PDS deal was approved without thorough investigations and due process.

“The reckless manner in which the rules were burnt by government for PDS and the irresponsible manner in which the over 20 billion worth of ECG assets were handed over to PDS highlights the prevailing atmosphere of corruption and leadership paralytics we are currently witnessing under President Nana Akufo-Addo,” he stressed.

According to him the demand guarantee which was critical to the agreement was ignored by the government in the allocation of the concession to PDS.

“PDS was required to provide ECG a payment security in the form of a letter of credit or demand guarantee with the value of $350 million from a bank. The purpose of this payment security was to safeguard the assets of ECG such that in case of default by PDS, Ghana through ECG could fall on same to as guarantee to recover our loses.”

Asiedu Nketia added that “contrary to the effort of parliament to protect the public purse in order to safeguard our interest in this matter, the Nana Akufo-Addo led-government shamefully and inexplicably conspired to bend the rules for PDS thus leading us into the present dire situation”.

According to the NDC, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta and other government officials need to answer questions for breaching the PDS concession agreement.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in recent times has been attacked for his failure to fight corruption under his watch with one of the most recent allegations being the bending of rules in the ECG/PDS agreement.

Minister for Information Kojo Oppong has however asked the general public to disregard speculation going on that the NPP government didn’t do due diligent in the PDS-ECG concession.

He said in due season the full report will be made available for Ghanaians to asserting the real truth in the ECG-PDS Concession.
