The national security is investigating a recruitment exercise that is turning out to be a scam involving many young Ghanaians. Close to four hundred dreamy young people were made to register to work in Hotels in the US for a year.

The applicants paid one thousand dollars each in addition to five hundred thousand cedi non-refundable interview fee to an official at the labour office where the exercise was held. However after almost a year, not a single applicant has gone on the programme nor has his or her monies be refunded.

Sources close to the employment ministry says the issue is currently under serious investigation while efforts are being made to locate the lady at the centre of the exercise Lizelle Bortha, fred Avornyo has more

The exercise which had the full blessing of the chief labour officer mr Essielfie could well become the biggest scandal to hit the labour office. Applicants were told that the programme had the full backing of the government.

While some even alleged that the organizers said the programme was part of the President?s special initiative meant for rural areas, but had to be moved to the urban centres because the rural folks could not afford the thousand dollar fee.

However a source at the ministry of employment and manpower development has denied any association with the recruitment exercise. The source said the ministry rather placed a hold on the exercise when it got wind of it last year.

According to the source, the ministry also ran a check on the recruiting company Explore African Abroad based in South Africa from the Ghana high commission in south Africa and it turn out that the said company is not credible. Efforts to get to the owner of the company Lizelle Bortha has also proved futile.

The source said following the numbers involved, the case was transferred to the national security for thorough investigation. Meanwhile the victims are becoming more and more agitated and want their monies back.
