Accra, March 15, GNA - Mr Erick Asamoah, the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross, has called for a legislative instrument that would empower the organization to offer first aid training to drivers before they acquire driving license. He said this has become necessary because of the trauma that accident victims go through long before reaching hospitals for treatment.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday, Mr Asamoah said the Red Cross Society had embarked on training programmes for schools. He said so far the Society had trained 1,060 teachers in the Greater Accra Region who would in turn educate their respective pupils in first aid administration.

Mr Asamoah appealed to the government to assist the Red Cross financially while charitable organizations, financial institutions and individuals to donate to enable the Red Cross to undertake its programmes. He said some of the programmes included prevention of diseases including HIV and AIDS as well as women and development.
