Red carpet, academic gowns: Watch as first cohort of Bawumia kayayei graduate

There was red carpet rolled out for the first graduation ceremony at the Kayayei Empowerment Programme recently launched by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

The event, which is under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) was held at one of the two premises for the programme in Accra on June 20, 2024.

According to CEO of NEIP, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, beneficiaries were empowered with skills in the following areas: Soaps & detergents making, baking, ⁠Pedicure & Manicure, Beading, Decor and Make up Artistry.

"Beneficiaries were also given Financial Management and Business Development skills. We are giving them starter packs and Micro grants to start their own businesses," he added.

All graduates were fully robed in academic gowns with a number of them receiving awards for outstanding performance during the month-long training.

Ofosu Nkansah also wrote in a Facebook post about the curriculum being run: The ladies he said were "accommodated for a month (3 weeks for Vocational skills and 1 week for Financial Mgt, BDS and general Life skills)"

"We will train 600 Kayayeis from the two Hostels each month," he emphasized.

The center was launched by Bawumia in May this year.
