Sat, 23 Aug 1997 Source: --

Dadiesoaba (B/A), Aug. 21, - Cocoa farmers at Dadiesoaba in the Asutifi district have called on the government to reduce the recent increase in the prices of insecticides and spraying machines. Okyeame Amankwa Fofie, spokesman for 13 chief farmers of the area, made the appeal at a farmers' forum at Dadiesoaba. Mr Kwaku Abakah-Ewusi, deputy regional director of the Ghana Cocoa Services, had earlier briefed the farmers on how to maintain their farms. Okyeame Fofie, the chief linguist of Dadiesoaba traditional council, said the price increase would erode the recent increase in the producer price of cocoa. He said farmers are of the view that the current price of unden 20 and gamalin would negatively affect the production of cocoa. Okyeame Fofie, therefore, called on the government to take a second look at the increases and reduce them accordingly.
