Former Leeds United striker, Tony Yeboah has revealed that in the past when he owned Yegoala FC, referees will come to him directly to ask for a bribe to help him win matches.

Following his retirement from football, the lethal striker returned to Ghana and formed his own team in a bid to give back to society what life had given him.

The team however could not stand the test of time after Tony Yeboah decided to sell his Yegoala FC. Speaking to Kwabena Yeboah of GTV Sports Plus, he has disclosed why he took that decision.

According to him, the behaviors of referees and how corrupt they were during that time forced him to sell his club.

Narrating his ordeal, Tony Yeboah said, “But what I realized is that Ghana football when you don’t pay the referees you will not win.

“They have to come to you and ask you when you are not paying you are going to lose. They tell you directly. It is the fact”

“So I was complaining and complaining. Because I remember one of the matches i think it was against one of the Obuasi teams. The referee was so bad. Officiating was very very bad and I went to the referee and asked do you know me? Am Tony Yeboah but the way you handled the match is not good.

“He told me so this is your first time of coming into the league? When the person comes to your home it is yours, and when you go to them it is for them".

Tony Yeboah enjoyed an illustrious career in Europe and in Ghana and had the opportunity of playing for the Black Stars as well. He is regarded as one of the best forward's ever to come out of the West African County.
