Accra, June 18, GNA - Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police has urged police officers to desist from negative acts that tend to destroy the very institution to which they belong. A statement signed by DSP David Eklu on Friday said the IGP made the remark when he addressed Regional and Unit Commanders within the Accra-Tema area.
It said Nana Nsiah assured personnel of the service that the administration was well focused on policies and steps to address the various problems facing the service.
Reacting to some concerns raised by personnel regarding salaries, the IGP said steps were being taken for a comprehensive and realistic condition of service for them.
He told the Commanders that recent public complaints about handling of suspects and complainants, and the laxity of some personnel in the performance of their duty was a cause for grave administration. The IGP, the statement said, charged Divisional, Districts and Unit Commanders to take full responsibility in the supervision and enforcement of all regulations concerning police operations.
He described recent concerns about promotions based on tribal lines as baseless because the policy on promotions was not based on ethnic background, and recent promotion do not reflect anything of the sort. Nana Nsiah asked personnel to check the list of those who have been promoted before drawing such conclusions.
