Refrain from herbal eye treatment - Ophthalmologist

Wenchi, May 8, GNA - Nana Kwame Amanfoh, an Ophthalmologist based in the United States, has advised Ghanaians to refrain from traditional herbal treatment for eye diseases, since any damage to the eyes is irreparable.

Presenting eye-drops and antibiotics worth millions of cedis to the Eye Clinic at Wenchi, he urged Ghanaians to go for regular checks to detect eye defects early.

Nana Kwame Amanfoh, who is the President of the Victory Vision Care (VVC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) aimed at providing affordable quality vision care services to help prevent blindness in Ghana, said the gesture was to promote collaboration between the NGO and local eye care providers.

He expressed regret that many people in rural areas stood the danger of becoming blind if they were not educated on proper eye care and promised the Clinic a Slit Lamp for the examination of the Retina.

Mr Alphonsus Kuuso, Ophthalmic Nurse at the Clinic, who received the items, thanked the donor for the gesture. In another development, Nana Amanfoh, who is a native of Nkyeraa near Wenchi, has donated Glaucoma Eye Drops to the Nkyeraa Roman Catholic Primary School, after conducting a free eye - screening for the school children.

He advised the pupils to take good care of their eyes and to go for proper medication whenever there was a problem since they could study hard to attain academic laurels only when they had good eyesight. Mr Jacob Evans Bonsu, Head-teacher thanked Nana Amanfoh for his voluntary spirit and promised that the eye drops would be judiciously administered to the children.
