Regional Administration to support Catholic university

Sunyani (B/A), June 30, GNA - Professor James Hawkins Ephraim, Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University College of Ghana, on Monday urged the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-coordinating Council to assist the university to upgrade its access road.

"In view of the current state of the road, taxi and bus drivers that convey students to and fro the institution are now hesitant to ply the road, resulting in high transportation cost for students, staff and other users", he said. The Vice Chancellor made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, a statement issued by the University and copied to the Ghana News Agency said. It said the visit was to improve university's relationship as well as promote an effective collaboration between it and the Regional Coordinating Council.

Prof. Ephraim expressed the university's appreciation for the provision of electricity on its new campus in December last year. He urged the Council to tap the quality human resource available at the university, especially as the region prepared to celebrate its golden jubilee anniversary.

Touching on the university's contributions to the Sunyani Municipality and the region as a whole, Prof. Ephraim mentioned the provision of quality education, stimulation of the economic activities such as the renting of houses, and patronage of goods and services by students and staff alike.

He stressed the need for potable water, private hostels and other essential services which would make the university a better place of learning to be provided. The Vice-Chancellor urged the Regional Administration to explore opportunities for investment. In response, Mr Nyamekye-Marfo assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Council would assist the university with the construction of the access road. He also said the Council would support the university with provision of portable water saying the university would be on the number of communities earmarked for boreholes in the course of the year.
