Nandom (U/W), July 14, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West Regional Minister has expressed grave concern about the excessive consumption of alcohol, especially "Akpeteshie'' by the people in the region. It is unfortunate that some government workers have joined this group of alcoholics and are increasingly becoming incapable of discharging their duties effectively.... The Regional Minister was launching this year's international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the region at Nandom yesterday on the theme ''Mobilising society to prevent drug-abuse''. To check this unfortunate situation, the minister said, the Regional Co-ordinating Council and other agencies, will soon launch an educational campaign to counsel such people and encourage them to live healthy and productive lives. He deplored the activities of unlicensed chemical sellers who take advantage of the ignorance of the rural people to sell dangerous and expired drugs to them and called on chiefs and assembly members to help expose them to the police.
