Registration centers in Sefwi-Akontombra observing coronavirus protocols

Registrants and Electoral officials in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the Sefwi-Akontombra constituency are strictly adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.

A visit to seven registration centres by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on day three of the exercise revealed that the exercise was smooth with both registration officials and registrants in nose masks and tables arranged within meters apart to ensure social distancing.

The centers visited Include, Pentecost JHS Akontombra, Fanoma West Akontombra, kuapa kokoo shed,Togo pole, and Anglican primary Akontombra.

The others are, GK preparatory school Nsawora, Presby church Akontombra and D/A primary Adumafua.

All the registration centers had Veronica buckets with soap, tissue papers, and hand sanitizers provided by the Electoral Commission and a nurse at each center with a gun thermometer to check the temperature of registrants and visitors.

Mr Tony Mensah Baine, Akontombra District Electoral officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all registration officials were trained on safety protocols and were being applied in the ongoing exercise.

He expressed satisfaction and commended the registration officials for ensuring the compliance of all the precautionary measures at the registration centers.

Mr Baine announced that a total of 1059 people were registered on the first day with 1292 registering on the second and 1336 people registered on the third day.

He mentioned the refusal of some political party agents to file challenge forms as a major set back in the exercise and called on them to follow the laid down processes, instead of resorting to violence which may scare and prevent people from registering.

He expressed satisfaction about the process and the number of people registered so far in the first three days and was hopeful they would meet their target.
