Just like every other preventive item against the global pandemic, the Coronavirus, demand for face masks have skyrocketed especially in areas where wearing of same has been made mandatory by the government and the Ghana Health Service.
The business of producing for sale has suddenly surged with different styles and materials currently in vogue.
The Bureau of Public Safety has raised concerns about how the face masks are being produced and sold especially as it appears the sale is being carried out by all and sundry without any regulation.
Speaking on Accra based Citi FM, Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety called for the immediate regulation of the sale of the protective gear.
“All sorts of people are trading in nose masks in manners that are most unhygienic. So, by the time you even want to comply with that directive, you would rather end up contaminating yourselves.”
“Why should we have people selling nose masks on the market just like that?” Nana Yaw Akwada quizzed.
Many people, tailors, seamstresses and regular people alike have taken to producing the face masks on their own with some selling to members of the public, since the onset of the Coronavirus in the country.
Ghana’s case count of the deadly viral disease stands at 1550 with 11 deaths. 155 people have recovered so far.
