The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Professor Dr. Oti Boateng has called on Ghanaians to reject politicians who trade in insults rather than pursuing issues that will bring positive changes in the lives of the people.

He said, the nation is now poised to move forward on the enhanced constitutional ladder for further accelerated development and that discussion of issues on political platforms were crucial than attacking personalities.

Daasebre Oti Boateng made these comments when he received the President, John Dramani Mahama, at Koforidua as part of his nationwide thank you tour.

He said “it is imperative that nothing whatsoever is done to derail the remarkable forward march of the nation as the touch bearer of Africa.”

He noted that the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs totally rejects the incipient politics of insults in the nation’s body politic adding that “we are hereby calling on all patriotic Ghanaians to reject the politics of insults.”

He called on all politicians and the media houses in the country to be circumspect in whatever they do to ensure violence-free elections in December.

Referring to the Bible, Daasebre Oti Boateng said the tongue, which is cited 93 times in the Holy Bible often alludes to its destructive powers. “The tongue has been variously described in the Holy Book as very deadly, unruly, evil and extremely poisonous and can cause destruction everywhere. And it is for this reason that we must all watch what we say to avoid the calamities which the tongue can cause as recorded in the Holy Book.” He observed. He said the nation needs peace to tackle the development gaps in education, health, agriculture, and other sectors of the economy. As a nation, “we can only move our development agenda forward on a platform of peace. Let us as Ghanaians promote national cohesion beyond politics, religion and ethnicity as the building blocks of Peace, Unity and Stability.” He noted He urged politicians and their supporters to make this year’s election campaigns be based on issues, programmes and ideas rather than on insults.

“Ghana is a symbolic heritage that needs to be preserved, projected and protected. Our social contract with respect to this heritage is to make Ghana a much better place to live for generations yet unborn.” Daasebre Oti Boateng noted.

On the President’s thank you tour, Daasebre Oti Boateng who is also the Omanhene of the New Juabeng Traditional Area observed that the philosophy of “Thank You” as embarked by the President “is also embedded in the English Law of Contract where the consummation of a contract rests on the three pillars of Offer, Acceptance, and Consideration devoid of duress. The consideration in the aforementioned pillars is akin with the Akan concept of Aseda, that is, Thank You.”
