Former deputy Works and Housing Minister, Sampson Ahi has called on government to release over GHC50 million funds allocated for flood control to the Works and Housing Ministry to solve flood related issues as a matter of urgency.

According to him, due to the delays in releasing funds allocated to the flood control, they are unable to desilt flood prone areas across the country.

Heavy rains on Monday left parts of Accra inaccessible again as flooding is a perennial event in Ghana, especially the capital whenever there is heavy downpour. A lot of places including the Tema-motorway was flooded leaving it unmotorable for hours.

With this development the member of parliament for Bodi constituency in an interview with Ghanaweb said that government failure to release these monies means he has no interest in solving flood related issues in the country.

“Government should release the funds earmark for flood control to the works and housing ministry so that they can move the people into the gutters to desilt them so that when it rains, they can collect the running water into the sea. If you don’t do that as for water it will definitely move and when its way is blocked it will divert causing flood”
