Remove all bottlenecks in land acquisition -Minister

Lawra (Upper West) 30 Nov. '98 Mr Bede Ziedeng, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister has called for the removal of all bottlenecks in land acquisition to enable private developers to build hotels and restauraunts to boost tourism in the region.

Mr Ziedeng, said this yesterday when he launched the Lawra District investment promotion fair, under the theme "enhancing the investment potential of the Lawra District".

The deputy Minister called on the District Assembly to ensure good sanitation to attract investment.

Tourist attractions in the district include the natural springs of Brifo, the Dikpe iron smelter and the structure which housed the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah when he was imprisoned by the colonial government during the struggle for independence.

The Deputy Minister urged producers smocks and artifacts such as xylophone for which Lawra is noted, to go into large scale production for the international market.

Mr Ziedeng however cautioned them to ensure that their products are of high quality and possess special features that would appeal to customers.

Mr Isaac Dasoberi, Lawra District Chief Executive, appealed to the chairman of the National Commission on Culture, to ensure that work on the Lawra cultural village is resumed as early as possible. Mr Ziedeng later launched a handbook on the tourist potentials of the district.
