Accra, May 27, GNA - The Ministry of Information has been called upon to remove billboards and posters projecting the achievements of the government on buses of the Metro Mass Transport since they are offensive and did not reflect the true socio-economic and political landscape of the country.
Speaking to the GNA in Accra, the Chairman of the Odododiodioo Constituency of the NDC, Mr. Daniel Okai, pointed out that the posters and billboards were deceptive since state and not party resources were used to achieve goals and it was insincere for one individual or party to take the credit for any achievement.
He stated that some of the projects were even started by previous governments and said the posters and banners on the buses suggested that NPP resources were used for them, which was not true. Mr. Okai said the posters and banners on the buses amounted to using state resources for partisan ends.
He recalled that when the NDC was in power, the painting of party colours on railway locomotive engines was criticized and said state resources were used for the billboards and posters by the Ministry of Information.
The NDC Constituency Chairman noted that train coaches now do not have party colours but a complete picture of President J.A Kufuor on them and said the Ministry of Information should change the billboards and posters to reflect achievements of the government and not "NPP Government Achievements".
He said that he was not against successes and achievements of the NPP but stated that state money and resources should not be used for what he called "purely partisan ends" to favour the NPP at the expense of the tax payer.
"The government and the Ministry of Information should change all the billboards and posters and the partisan bias in their content removed", he said adding, "all Ghanaians should feel being part of the achievements since their taxes, were used to pay for them". "If after two weeks and they have not been removed there will be a massive demonstration to petition the Speaker of Parliament and call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to force the government to effect the changes," Mr. Okai said.
He said during the NDC era, the display of simple party colours at state functions was criticized by the NPP and questioned why government should now use state property and resources to project the party.
