Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, has proposed the renaming of his ministry as Ministry for Water, Works and Housing. According to him since the water sector falls under the Works and Housing Ministry it is imperative to incorporate water into the name of the ministry.
He said the new name will also underline the importance of water to the ministry. The Minister said this when he visited the Community Water and Sanitation Agency today to familiarize himself with the operations.
Alhaji Iddris commended the agency on its operations saying its role of providing potable water is very critical in the development of the country.
Since its inception in 1994, the Community Water Sanitation Agency has trained over 10,000 district officers in data collection, analysis and forecasting of water related issues. It has also provided nearly nine thousand rural communities and small towns with water facilities and hopes to provide policy advice on water and sanitation to the government by 2015.
