The Minister for Energy, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, has said that it will be politically suicidal for President John Agyekum Kufuor to withdraw his appointment for the position of a Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He said this at the ECG Training School at Tema when he met with representatives of the Senior Staff Association(SSA) and the National Association of Branch Unions (NABU) as a follow-up to a petition the workers sent to him against the appointment of Mr. Fred Asante as the new Managing Director of ECG.

This, the minister said, is because the Council of State has already approved of Mr. Asante's appointment.

His pronouncement is against the backdrop that the workers prefer a Mr. Annan of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) contending that Mr. Fred Asante is pending his terminal leave and a perceived belief that he can not handle the already troubled power company.

The Energy Minister made a passionate appeal to the workers to guide Mr. Fred Asante in his daily running of the company.

There was suppressed disagreement and apprehension among the workers leadership.
