The Commissioner-General of Ghana Revenue Authority,Emmanuel Kofi Nti has admonished the Ghanaian populace to report Ghana Revenue Authority workers found to be engaging in any form of fraudulent acts.

Mr. Nti who was speaking at a media briefing on the enforcement of Taxpayer Identification Number said, the registration for TIN is free therefore any GRA worker who is reported to have charged individuals who want to obtain their TIN would be dealt with drastically.

“ I wish to reiterate that those who have not registered would take advantage and do so, registration for TIN comes at no cost to the taxpayer and so we appeal to the public to take note of this free service and report any staff of GRA who violates this principle” he said

According to him, contrary to earlier arrangements that registration for TIN became effective on April 1st 2018, TIN registration will not be closed at GRA offices after the deadline – only that those who do not have the TIN will no longer have access to some public services beginning April 1, 2018.

“The directive requires all businesses and individuals to obtain a TIN before they are able to conduct official business in the country, adding that the GRA has issued one million and ninety thousand, three hundred and thirty-eight TIN” he said

The TIN is a unique identification number issued to taxpayers for official transactions, and the GRA has said it wants to use this strategy to widen the tax net for domestic revenue generation.
