Residents of Amansie Central advised to keep environment clean

Atabrakoso (Ash), Dec 20, GNA- Residents of floods-prone communities in the Amansie Central District in the Ashanti Region, have been advised to keep their environment clean and ensure personal hygiene to help prevent the outbreak of malaria, typhoid fever and other diseases.

Mr Osei-Assibey Antwi, the Deputy Regional Minister, who is also the acting District Chief Executive, said these after distributing rice, blankets, mosquito nets and used clothing to residents of some communities in the district who recently had their farms and personal belongings destroyed by floods. The items worth over GH=A26,000 (60 million cedis) were purchased by the assembly and AngloGold Ashanti donated rice, blankets and mosquito nets worth over GH=A22,500 (25 million cedis) The beneficiary communities included Ntwiaso, Aduntia, Odaso, Atabrakoso and Gyameyanhunu.

Mr Antwi, who was accompanied by Mr Osei Amponsah, the Regional Co-ordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation, said government was commitment to improving the welfare of farmers and developing their communities. He said government had formulated programmes to help facilitate the development of the district and called on the people to unite. Mr K. Owusu-Ntim, assembly member for Huu electoral area, said the floods resulted in hunger, poverty and diseases and appealed to the Ministry of Health to intensify health care delivery to the area.
