At least more than thousand people from four communities; Kafaba, Jamboi, Kayerso and salaga in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region have benefitted from a health screening exercise organised by Theosalt Agape Centre and Compassionate Professionals for Global Mission in collaboration with Christian Medical Mission.

According to the Head Pastor of the Agape Assemblies of God church in the District Rev. Godson K. Bodzah, the exercise is a social and welfare component of the church programmes and responsibilities to ensure they provide medical services to people.

He noted that the call to service is not only seen behind the pulpit but to ensure the welfare and needs of your members and neighbours is attended to as Christ directed. ”

Theosalt Agape center has organised several programmes and interventions in the district and will continue to identify the needs of the people and help in addressing them as Jesus Christ directs” he added.

The Coordinator of the medical team drawn from the various health units from the United States of America, Nigeria and Ghana Madam Eyitem Sarah Igbe said the wealth of every country dwells in their health and that even Jesus Christ admonished his followers to give back to society not only preaching the gospel but also been one another’s keeper. She however lamented on the high rate of Hepatitis B and epilepsy in the District and called for government and stakeholder involvement to tackle it at the early stages.

Most of the cases we have here indicate there is high prevalence of Hepatitis B and epilepsy and a small community can not deal with it considering their financial status so government should consider a nationwide immunization” she said. Madam Sarah also touched on access to health care as a challenge she noted.

The weeklong exercise started on Sunday may 28th and ended on Saturday June 3rd, 2017.
