Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have staged a peaceful demonstration to demand the immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase road.

In a video sited by GhanaWeb on August 17, 2026, the protesters marched from Kitase towards Kwabenya to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of the road, which they say has remained largely neglected for more than two decades.

The residents said the poor state of the road has created serious difficulties for motorists, commuters, students and businesses in the affected communities.

“This is a peaceful demonstration. Our road needs to be fixed. For over 20 years, this road has not been fixed,” one of the demonstrators said.

He indicated that residents had repeatedly supported successive governments through elections and were now demanding action on the road.

“We voted massively for the government. We voted massively and we have given this government two MPs… We need this road to be fixed now,” he said.

Another resident, Joe Floss, said the poor condition of the road was making daily commuting increasingly difficult and unsafe.

“We are asking the government to fix our community road from Parbenyal to Kitase. It’s been a long time. Drivers on the road are complaining. Citizens on the road are complaining,” he said.

He added that the situation sometimes made it difficult for residents to travel safely to work.

“Sometimes, even to get access to work safely is an issue. So, we are pleading with the government to work on that for us,” he stated.

The protesters also expressed frustration over the intermittent nature of work on the road, saying projects have repeatedly been started and abandoned.

One demonstrator said the road had seen little progress over the years despite its importance as a link between Accra and communities on the Eastern Region corridors.

“It’s been so long. For the last 16 years, they start and they stop. And I think sometimes for a project like this, it’s important for the citizens to come out, make some noise, [to drum home our concerns] to politicians,” he said.

According to the protesters, completing the road would boost economic activity in the area by improving access to schools, workplaces and other facilities.

“If they manage to fix this road, there are people who live here and go into town for school. The economic activity here will increase. People will build their homes here, schools will record high enrolment, among other things,” another resident said.
