Alan Kyerematen, Independent Presidential Candidate and Founder of the Movement for Change (M4C) has expressed worry over concerns of compromised data with respect to the 2024 provisional voters register.
According to him, resolving the concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) would ensure credibility in the pending elections.
In a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC) on September 23, 2024, he urged the Commission to rectify the anomalies in the register, pointed out by the NDC, emphasising that the integrity of the elections depends largely on the register.
He proposed the establishment of five collaborative measures to address the discrepancies the NDC has identified in the register, including the establishment of a high-level Technical Working Group (TWG) which will include representatives of candidates cleared to contest the general elections, as well as consultants responsible for the EC data management.
This group, he added, will be tasked with agreeing on processes for a thorough audit of the voters register.
"The M4C proposes the following measures in support of securing universal acceptability of the Voters Register.
"1. The establishment of a high-level Technical Working Group (TWG) chaired by the EC, with representatives of Candidates cleared to contest the General Elections, and the Consultants responsible for the EC data management.
"2. The Technical Working Group would agree on the process and procedures for a full and comprehensive audit of the current Voter Register, based on the following source documents.
"a. The final 2020 voters register.
"b. Limited Registration information since 2021.
"c. Voter Transfers effected since 2021.
"d. Special Voters Lists since 2020 to date.
"3. Each member of the Technical Working Group ought to be provided access to original copies of the listed source documents and facilitated to determine the veracity of entries in the said documents", the letter noted.
On September 17, 2024, the NDC embarked on a protest dubbed 'Enough Is Enough Demo' to demand a forensic audit of the 2024 provisional voters register, citing discrepancies in it.
The party argued that the discrepancies it has identified could potentially disenfranchise some voters and compromise the integrity of the elections.
