Resort to dialogue in settling differences - Students Union

Navrongo (UE), April 20, GNA- The Bawku Students Union of the University of Development Studies (UDS) in the Upper East Region at the weekend appealed to people in the Bawku Traditional Area to resort to dialogue in settling differences rather than resorting to conflicts and confrontations.

Mr. Issaka Mubarik Deliman, President of the Union who made the appeal at a press briefing on the Navrongo Campus of the UDS appealed for total calm and peace to be restored in the area to pave way for development and progress, saying conflicts impeded productivity and development.

He expressed concern about the loss of lives and valuable properties running into millions of cedis, including schools, hospitals, clinics and market places.

The President called on the youth not to allow themselves to be influenced and used by some unscrupulous people to satisfy their personal gains, thereby causing chaos and confusion.

"It is the future of Bawku and its environs which is at stake. All the youth of Bawku should recognize this and resist any conflict, instability and any anti-progress activities and actions", Mr. Deliman stressed. He urged all Bawku Students in other institutions not to use the conflict as a means of segregating themselves but rather preach peace and unity to prevail in the area.

He commanded other stakeholders, including the Upper East Regional Security Counsel (REGSEC), Security personnel and other Non-Governmental Organizations who were contributing to the restoration of peace in the area.

He asked the security personnel to exhibit high sense of discipline in the discharge of their duties and to desist from abusing human rights of the people in the area.

Dr Agnes Apusiga, a Lecturer of UDS and also a Patron of the Union urged the students to always be the ambassadors of peace by preaching peace and unity to their people and said without peace no meaningful development could take place.
