A senior law lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, has entreated newly sworn in Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo to commit more resources to the lower courts across the country.

According to him, most of the attention has been on resourcing the superior courts in the country, neglecting the lower courts which are also preforming important roles in the delivery of justice in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Class 91.3FM’s ,Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on 505 on Monday June 19 after the swearing in of the Chief Justice, Mr Agyeman said: “She is somebody who is qualified and capable of ensuring that we maintain the discipline of the judiciary and ensuring that the constitutional mandate that is given to them to be independent will always be maintained.

“We expect technological advancement in the delivery of justice so as to curtail the delays that we always encounter in the judiciary.

“I think she will continue what her predecessors have done, especially the introduction of technology. Maybe there will be more resources that will be pumped into the lower courts because it seems to me that there has always been overconcentration of our energy and efforts and resources on the superior courts of justices.”

Ms Akuffo was sworn into office on Monday June 19 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The president charged her to prove herself in her new role.
