Respect The Ruling of The Supreme Court

Wed, 20 May 1998 Source: --

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 19 May, '98

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 19 May, '98 Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, Asantehene, has advised factions in the Kumasi Moshie chieftaincy dispute to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court and live in peace and harmony. He said what is now required of them is to put the past behind you and work together for the common good of the people. The Asantehene was receiving Alhaji Amadu Abubakari, the Moshie chief in Kumasi, to the Manhyia Palace yesterday. Alhaji Abubakari was at the Palace to brief the Asantehene on the judgement given by the Supreme Court in respect of the dispute over his appointment as chief. Otumfuo Opoku Ware asked the Moshies to avoid all acts that are likely to fuel animosity and lead to possible outbreak of violence. He asked Alhaji Abubakari to let his doors open to all saying "you should not discriminate against for the simple reason that he or she opposed your appointment". Earlier, a large number of Moshies in Kumasi organised an elaborate victory celebration in honour of their chief. The event passed off without any incident. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court on may 13, this year, by a 3-2 decision gave judgement in the Kumasi Moshie chieftaincy dispute in favour of Alhaji Abubakari. gri
