Respect to fathers is a command but with reward - Pastor

Accra, June 16, GNA - Respect and honour for fathers should not be compromised in any way, if children wish to grow to fulfil their potentials for their nations and societies, Reverend Ben Danquah, senior Pastor of Rhema Christian Centre International said on Sunday in Accra. Speaking at an inaugural ceremony of the Church's Men's Fellowship on the occasion of this year's Fathers' Day, Pastor Danquah explained that honouring one's father irrespective of how irresponsible he might be, was a commandment and not a choice.

The pastor inducted into office an eight-member executive body of the Rhema Men's Fellowship named: "Men of Influence" which aims at fostering unity and love among all men in the Church, both Ghana or abroad as well as men in general.

Rev. Danquah said Christians must lead the crusade to show the world that, taking full opportunity of the Fathers' Day to express their gratitude for fathers with all their heart was a responsibility that comes with reward.

"Honour your father and mother so that your days shall be prolong on earth," he quoted the bible.

Underscoring the importance of Fathers Day, Rev Danquah said it helped to acknowledge the contributions of fathers to their families and society at large.

In addition he said: "Observance of the day makes father feel that their contribution are acknowledged in the society and also by their children who will demonstrate their love to them. "The best way to do so is to do small things that daddy appreciates and by saying 'I love you, Papa' with a gift of beautiful flower." he said Dr Daniel Darku, President of the men said the Fellowship derives its values and strength from the attributes the eagle bird such as accountability, integrity and excellence. He said, under his presidency, the Fellowship would create a sense of consciousness among men in the Church and beyond, whose passions would be to acquire a wealth of knowledge and expertise in many relevant fields of endeavours.

"It is our belief that, through brotherly love and fellowship, God's spirit will guide us into our individual and collective destinies that will be needed for a nation building," he said. All activities of the Church on the day were conduct by the men only from prayer, praise and worship to preaching, whilst the women and ladies sat to enjoy to the glory of the Lord. The other executives' members were Mr Afram Asuo and Mr. Patrick Ayensu, first and second Vice President respectively, Mr. Lawrence Quartey, Executive Secretary, Mr Samuel Topaz, Organiser, Francis Quaye, Financial Director, Shadrach Agbovi, Assistant Financial Director, Mr Ben Ofosu, Treasurer and Mr Peter Samuel Dowuona Nortey, Prayer Director. 16 June 08
