Accra, Jan 27, GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, Presidential candidate of the People's National Convention (PNC) on Sunday called on government to restore all rights and privileges due to late ex-president Dr Hilla Limann, to the family as a way of showing love and care.
He said although government could have saved his life at the time of his death, nothing was done and he was left to die.
"This man needed to be sent abroad, even in Ghana, he was not properly cared for. The poor man died a preventable death, as a doctor I know," he told the Ghana News Agency at a church service marking the tenth anniversary celebration of the former president. He said the privileges he was asking for were acts of human kindness that must be exhibited by the ruling government to all former presidents.
In a sermon, The Very Rev. M. A. Bossmans, Coordinating Minister of the Accra Ridge Church, called on Ghanaians to live above reproach and exhibit high sense of integrity and humility.
He said ex-president Limann bequeathed something worthwhile to the nation.
Ms Leda Limann, daughter of the former president, said her father served diligently and faithfully, even beyond his country. "Beyond his dear country he left a legacy for the rest of humanity, what he stood, lived and died for provide the most excellent sample", she added.
At the ceremony were top government officials and representatives from political parties.
