The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress Kofi Adams is asking the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference to apologise to God and the Catholic Church for his comments on the raging controversy regarding the former Guantanamo Bay detainees in Ghana.

According to him, Bishop Joseph Osei Bonsu was disrespectful in his reaction to the President John Mahama's appeal for Ghanaians to extend compassion to the two former terror suspects.

The comments by Mr. Adams come on the back of a similar call by a member of the New Patriotic Party Michael Ampong that the bishop must apologise to the President over the same comment.

The Catholic Bishop in response to the President said compassion must be applied with common sense.

Speaking to Accra-based Okay FM Monday, the former deputy general secretary of the NDC said the priest has disappointed the church and his colleague bishops by his response to the President .

“His comments were completely out of place, I believe that if he had supervised any mass this week, he would have gone on his knees and ask for forgiveness, the best thing to do is for him to come out and apologise.

“The response was a total insult to the President and I think he should apologise. He should apologise to Ghanaians, his colleague bishops and the church in general,” he said.
