Revised NHQS will focus on innovative solutions to enhance healthcare – Deputy Minister of Health

The Second National Quality Forum commenced on July 17, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel, focusing on the essential roles of leadership and governance in enhancing healthcare quality throughout the nation.

With the theme, "Ghana's Healthcare Quality Strategy; Efforts Towards a Sustainable System for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) 2030," the event emphasizes a unified commitment to providing accessible, high-quality health services for all Ghanaians.

In his address, Alexander Akwasi Acquah the deputy minister of health, highlighted the significant progress made since the inaugural forum in 2015 and the introduction of the first National Healthcare Quality Strategy (NHQS) in 2016 as well as launching the revised NHQS for 2024-2030.

“I am honoured and delighted to address you today as we officially open the Second National sustainable healthcare system for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030. Quality Forum. This event represents a pivotal moment in our journey towards achieving universal health coverage.

“Our ministry views UHC as all people in Ghana having timely access to the best quality health services, irrespective of the ability to pay, social standing, or geographical location at the point of use and we have been guided by this in our quest to serve our people.

“Since the inaugural National Quality Forum in 2015, Ghana has made significant strides in healthcare quality. We launched our first National Healthcare Quality Strategy (NHQS 2017- 2021) in December 2016, marking a critical step towards a more coordinated and quality-driven health system. Today, we gather not only to reflect on the progress we have made but also to chart the path forward with the revised NHQS for 2024-2030,” he said.

"Today, we not only celebrate our achievements but also launch the revised NHQS for 2024-2030, focusing on innovative solutions and best practices," he stated.

The forum was a collaborative effort involving USAID, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, World Vision, and the Safe Care Healthcare Standards JoBerg Foundation brought together healthcare leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss effective governance strategies, share successful case studies, and foster collaboration among stakeholders.

The agenda includes engaging presentations, panel discussions, and opportunities for open dialogue regarding the challenges faced in the healthcare sector.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Health Alhaji Hafiz Adam, emphasized the significance of learning from past experiences to improve healthcare delivery.

"This event reflects our commitment to achieving UHC by 2030, showcasing best practices and innovative initiatives that inspire continuous improvement," he remarked.

The Ministry also acknowledges the vital support of partners such as USAID, WHO, and UNICEF in developing the revised NHQS.

Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions, sharing insights and collaborative efforts that will help create a resilient healthcare system, ultimately ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to patient-centered care.
