Ghanaians remain divided over the acquittal and discharge of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe.

During a special edition of GhanaWeb’s #TrendingGH on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, some members of the public told reporter Victoria Kyei Baffour that the case should be revisited, while others questioned the circumstances surrounding the prosecution and subsequent acquittal.

Some respondents argued that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta had signed off on certain decisions linked to the case and should, therefore, not be excluded from responsibility if wrongdoing was established.

Others raised broader concerns about the country’s justice system, questioning the basis on which individuals are arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned in cases involving alleged financial misconduct.

According to some of the respondents, the justice system appears to disproportionately affect individuals without significant political or financial influence, prompting calls for greater consistency and fairness in the application of the law.

The acquittal and discharge of Tamakloe has consequently reignited public debate about accountability in public institutions, the prosecution of alleged financial crimes and whether all individuals who may have played a role in decisions under investigation are being treated equally.

While some believe the former MASLOC CEO should still face accountability if evidence of wrongdoing exists, others insist that responsibility should not be placed solely on one individual where decisions involved multiple officials and required approvals.
