The family of the late Ghanaian president, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, has denied knowledge of another family which has reportedly been given clearance by the Chief of Staff to hold a remembrance event at Asomdwee Park, where the late president was buried.
In a statement issued by Dr. Cadman Atta Mills, the brother of the late president, the Atta Mills family stated that it has not given any approval to the Odumna Ebusua to perform any rites at the graveyard of the late president.
The family is therefore appealing to the Chief of Staff to revoke the clearance granted to the supposed family and ensure that no group of persons, other than the one headed by Dr. Cadman Mills, is allowed to visit the tombstone of the late President Mills.
“The Ebusuapayin Nana Kodwo Esiaw Dufu I of the Nkuma Kyerba Twidan Ebusua of Cape Coast, (Dr. Cadman Dufu Atta Mills in private life and brother of the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills), on behalf of the Maternal Family of the late president, the Nkuma Kyerba Twidan Ebusua of Cape Coast, wishes to inform (1) the Chief of Staff, and importantly (2) the general public, that the so-called Odumna Ebusua does NOT have any family relation with the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
"The Twidan Ebusua of Cape Coast expects that, armed with this information, the Chief of Staff will publicly revoke any approval granted to the so-called Odumna Ebusua to 'perform rites' at Asomdwee Park," parts of the statement read.
The statement from Dr. Cadman Mills follows reports in the media that the office of the Chief of Staff has given authorization to the Odumna Ebusua to perform commemorative rites at the graveyard of the late president.
Professor Mills passed away on July 24, 2012, in Accra after a short illness.
