Some students of the two male halls threw stones at each other, blocked roads and damaged vehicles
Students of the University Hall and Unity Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who are found culpable in acts of vandalism at the recent LUV FM Old Schools Reunion will face disciplinary action, management of the university has said.
“We however, wish to assure the general public that thorough investigations have begun and any student culpable would be dealt with according to the rules and regulations of the University,” KNUST Acting Deputy Registrar and University Relations Officer Kwame Yeboah Jr. said in a press statement on Wednesday, November 29.
Some students from the two male halls clashed at event held at the Baba Yara Stadium over the weekend. They threw stones at each other, blocked roads and damaged vehicles on Saturday, November 25. The intervention of the police averted an escalation of the violence.
Mr Yeboah explained that eight students were arrested by the Asokwa Divisional Command of the Police but were given police enquiry bail and handed over to the KNUST District and KNUST Security Services to continue with the investigation.
However the university authorities said LUV FM invited the students without recourse to the management of the university and further condemned the actions of the students adding “we consider this act unfortunate and unacceptable and condemn the reprehensible behaviour of the students in no uncertain terms”.
