Road To Be Open To Public

Keta, Dec. 17, GNA- The main road linking Havedzi and Keta which is part of the Sea Defence Project will be opened for public use on January 1, next year, Mr Emmanuel Vorkeh, Keta District Chief Executive (DCE) announced on Tuesday.

Addressing the Third Ordinary Meeting of the District Assembly at Keta on Wednesday, he said the new road would open up the district to the rest of the country and enhance its economic activities. Mr Vorkeh said the Assembly had a total of 7 billion cedis from various sources including the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for development between January and September this year.

He mentioned other sources of the funds as HIPC Fund, Social Investment Fund (SIF), Village Infrastructure Project (VIP), the European Union (EU) Micro-Project, Women Development Fund, Special Farmers Loans and the Emergency Social Relief Fund.

On revenue, the DCE said the Assembly collected only 338.4 million cedis as at September this year, representing 52 per cent of the annual target of 651.1 million cedis.

Mr Vorkeh said four units of classroom blocks with five-seater Water Closet (WC) toilets were built at Dzelukope-Norliveme, Tegbi-Ashiata, Anloga and Tunu, a 10-seater WC at Woe, a community library at Anyako and a Nurses quarters at Kodzi, all funded from the HIPC fund. The DCE appealed to the Assembly members and Anlo citizens to pray for the peaceful resolution of the Awoamefia Chieftaincy stalemate since both the Assembly and the Anlo State were loosing a great deal as a result of the dispute.

Mr Dan Abodakpi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta reminded members that district assemblies remained non-partisan and the growth and development of the district should be their main focus.
