Road safety education organised for drivers

Accra October 15, GNA- Seven hundred and sixteen people died through road accidents from January to June this year, Chief Superintendent of Police, Madam Fatima Fuseini, Education officer at the National Road Safety Commission said in Accra on Wednesday.

She said more than ten thousand people died through road accidents annually in Ghana, Madam Fuseini who was speaking during an educational programme for drivers said 4,576 people were deformed this year through road accidents, which could have been avoided.

The programme organized by the National Road Safety Commission and Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) for drivers at the Odorkor lorry station was part of an exercise of educating drivers on road safety. Madam Fuseini urged drivers to refrain from alcoholism, over speeding and reckless driving.

Mrs. Amoah Ntim, a representative from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) advised drivers to pay their taxes to enable government to maintain the roads to prevent road accidents. 15 Oct 03
