Mr Magnus Opare-Asamoah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, expressed concern about the high incidence of road traffic accidents in the Ashanti Region, leading to fatalities.

He said the region had received an unenviable reputation as being the area with the highest record of accidents especially on the Konongo-Ejisu road. Mr Noble Appiah, Executive Secretary of NRSC, said during the first quarter of the year, 348 people died, while 2,888 were injured through road accidents.

He said 25 per cent of pedestrians who died in such accidents were children and called on stakeholders to take stringent measures that would help reduce over-speeding, drunk driving and other negative attitudes of drivers which often resulted in fatal incidents. 16 May 05
