Accra, Aug. 2, GNA - Armed robbers on Monday shot dead a Policeman, who tried to effect the arrest of a group of armed men, who were robbing passengers on the main Tamale - Bolgatanga road. The robbers had blocked the road with sheanut trees and branches and were robbing passengers plying the road.
Police sources told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday that when Constable Kojo Kakraba Kakraba of the Police Training School at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region saw the robbers, who had by then robbed about 80 passengers in a cargo truck, he arrested two of them not knowing that several other robbers were lurking in the area. They came to the aid of their two colleagues by firing at Constable Kakraba. The sources said Constable Kakraba took cover under the cargo truck with registration number AS 774 E but the robbers fired under the truck and hit him in the chest and killed him.
The Police sources quoted eyewitnesses as saying Constable Kakraba showed a high degree of bravely but lost his life in the end. The sources said Police investigations at the scene recovered seven empty cartridge shells. The body of Constable Kakraba has been deposited at the Bolgatanga mortuary. Police investigations continue.
