Residents of Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region were thrown into shock when some armed men suspected to be robbers stormed the main lorry park with guns in an attempt to rob them.
Eyewitnesses told DAILY GUIDE that the incident happened at 4:40pm.
Four men believed to have come from neighbouring Ivory Coast arrived on motorbikes and attacked local forex bureau dealers at the lorry park with guns believed to be AK47, injuring three people in the process. One forex dealer, whose name was given only as Dibila, was shot in the leg.
Two others who sustained some degrees of injury were taken to the Sampa Government Hospital for treatment, DAILY GUIDE learnt.
Speaking on Gye Nyame FM, a local radio station at Sampa, DSP William Gyamfi, the Jaman North District Police Commander, disclosed that the forex dealer who was shot had been referred to Duayaw Nkwanta Government Hospital for further treatment.
He said he believed the armed robbers were Ivoirians who had monitored the dealers for sometime before executing the crime.
DSP Gyamfi added that the police pursued the robbers but they bolted through an unapproved route to Ivory Coast.
He assured that investigations were underway into the matter.
