Robbers raid gold shop in Obuasi

Three suspected armed robbers on Thursday raided a gold dealer’s shop at Obuasi – Sampsonkrom in the Ashanti Region, and looted Ghc100,000 and pure gold.

The suspected robbers, who wielded guns, shot Abubakar Fuseini, 43, the gold dealer, in the left leg and fled with their booty.

Issah Kassim, 50, a security guard at the dealer’s shop, who on hearing a gunshot rushed to the aid of his master, was shot in the stomach and died instantly.

Family sources told the GNA that Kassim had been buried according to Muslim custom whilst the gold dealer was receiving treatment at the Anglogold Ashanti Hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, who confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency, said the police had mounted a search for the robbers.

“The police is aware of the shooting incident and have mounted a search to track the perpetrators”, he said.

DSP Acheampong appealed to the public to volunteer information to help the police arrest the assailant.
