The Rotary Club of Accra Legon East on Saturday 30th March, 2019 inducted the Second Lady, Her Excellency Samira Bawumia into full membership of the Rotary Club Of Accra Legon East during its annual Rotary Foundation Breakfast and Fundraising.
President of the Club, Rotarian Estherlynne Osei-Bonsu (Mrs) recognised the Second Lady’s interest in humanitarian service and commitment to the empowerment of the under privileged in society as ideals which identifies with Rotary International.
Rotary International Director, Rotarian Olayinka Hakeem Babalola who affixed the Rotary pin on Mrs. Bawumia lapel insisted on full membership rather than a proposed honorary membership and charged her to be an active and dedicated member of the club.
In her speech, Mrs. Bawumia made a commitment to be a good member of the club and pledged her support for all future projects of the club.
She disclosed that she was a Rotaractor, which is one of the youth arm of Rotary and was happy to finally be part of the Rotary family. “The strength of Rotary is not in the individual effort but in our collective efforts and the power of our combined efforts knows no limitations”; she said and called for collaboration of all in this endeavour to serve humanity.
The Rotary Club of Accra Legon East also raised funds to support the first phase of Rehabilitation of the Paediatric Ward of the University of Ghana Hospital which is currently in a deplorable state.
The project was taken on by the club this Rotary year and will be implemented in three major phases to lift the Paediatric Ward to world standard and improved child care in the process.
Some members of the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East were recognised for their contribution to The Rotary Foundation which is the arm of Rotary responsible for funding the various projects Rotarians undertake worldwide.
In all five members became Paul Harris Fellows ( an individual who has contributed up to $1000 in cash or recognition points to the Foundation ) at various levels and 2 Benefactors (an individual who has contributed $1000 outright to The Rotary Foundation ).
In attendance was the District Governor of District 9102 (made up of Rotary Clubs in Ghana, Togo, Benin and Niger); Rotarian Jeffery Afful together with some Past District Governors, Assistant Governors, Past Assistant Governors, Presidents and Past Presidents and members of the various Rotary clubs in Ghana.
