Rotary Club of Wa inducts new executives

The Rotary Club of Wa has inducted its new executives at a ceremony in Wa.

They are to take charge of the activities of the club for one year.

Madam Rosina Ta-Ang Yenli, the newly inducted president of the club, said the club was built to support government and non-governmental organisations to fight diseases, provide clean and potable water, ensure sanitation and hygiene as well as improve access to education among others.

She said the club under her watch would establish electronic libraries in five selected senior high schools in the Upper West Region, assist brilliant but needy student to have access to education and construct a hearing assessment centre for the Wa School for the Blind.

Madam Yenli said the club would also conduct eye screening for about 20,000 people across the region, refurbish the Wa Regional hospital maternity ward and gynaecology theatre and conduct breast and cervical cancer screening for women in the Wa Municipality.

“It is a challenge to us to live our motto of ‘service above self‘ not to only make this club better, but to leave humanity better than we met it”, she said.

Mr Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Wa and his executives for exhibiting good leadership skills which has contributed immensely to the development of the region.

He also extolled the club for its effort to support government to improve the living standards of the people of the region.

Mr Martin Dery, outgoing president of the club, said the club was driven by the desire to work with communities to mitigate challenges facing them.

He said the club under his leadership with support from the Rotary Clubs of Accra Ring Road Central and Accra Ridge at different times has donated teaching and learning materials to the Wa School for the Deaf and supported national blood donation exercises.

Mr Dery entreated the members of the club to be committed to the ideals and activities of the club.
