The Rotary Club of Sekondi-Takoradi and the Rotary Club of West Ridge, Accra, have donated items estimated at GH¢ 5,000 to the Egyam Children’s Home in the Ahanta West District.
The items include food items, toiletries, stationery and used clothing.
Mr. Paul Kojo Asare, President of the Rotary Club of West Ridge, who made the presentation, said the items were the Club’s contribution towards the upkeep of children.
He said individual members and the Club would continue to support the Home to take care of the children to become responsible citizens in future.
Receiving the donation, Mr. Daniel Payne, Manager of the Home, said the institution looked after orphans, children with special needs and children who had lost one of their parents and had been recommended by the Department of Social Welfare.
He said the Home was providing care for 50 children in residence, in terms of their health, food, shelter and education; while sponsoring 58 children at the basic level of education and nine children at Senior Secondary Schools.
Mr. Payne said the Home was also sponsoring five children at the tertiary level of education and nine children in apprenticeship.
Their challenges, he said, included the high cost of educating the children in public schools as the home did not have its own schools.
Mr. Payne said the Home was among the six private orphanages, which had been registered and licensed.
