Royal fight at Ankwa Doboro; Chief goes wild

Kingmakers and members of the three royal houses of Ankwa Doboro, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region are up in arms against one of their own- Madam Mary Ankwa Akua Oye, a self styled family head of of the ruling clan in the area.

Madam Oye a successor of one of the ruling houses of Ankwa Doboro namely: Ankwa, Boakyewaa and Anfoa has held herself on various platforms as the head of the family and for that matter dealt with individuals or companies that constantly troop the area to do business.

Some angry members of the family have therefore questioned the motive behind Madam Oye’s conduct and threatened to use all legal means to stop her from deceiving the public with her “fictitious” claim of being the owner and caretaker of the entire Ankwa Doboro Township.

The Chief of the area Nana Kwame Agyare II told a team of reporters at his palace that he was surprised at the conduct of Madam Oye who happens to be is aunt.

He explained that the lady in question did not qualify in anyway to be head of family as the substantive head appointed by the family remains on the family stool.

“She is claiming to be owner of this whole community simply because she bears the name Ankwa which happens to be part of the name of this area,” he said.

Although Nana Agyare admitted that Madam Oye was a descendant of one the ruling houses in the area, her claim of being the owner of the community was far fetched.

“Every community is governed by laws and as per our traditional laws and the laws of this country, I am the duly enstooled chief of |Ankwa Doboro so I would not sit down and watch anyone usurp my powers,” He stated strongly and threatened to deal ruthlessly with persons who would try to take the laws into their own hands.

He accused Madam Oye of conniving with a gentleman who over the years carried himself as a chief in the community and later destooled by a Court of competent jurisdiction to sell lands to unsuspecting developers in the area.

In a case concerning the legitimacy of the gentleman who has allegedly teamed up with Madam Oye to sell lands in the area, the Akuam Traditional Council ruled that “Nana Duodu II on all fronts was not seen to be a royal from any of the three ruling houses to the extent that his own aunties who were subpoenaed by the committee could not trace his lineage to the royal family. In short, we found out that Nana Duodu II is not a royal, so his continued occupation of the Ankwa Doboro stool is an aberration”.

Nana Agyare who was sworn in as chief with the prior approval of all members of the three ruling houses, including Madam Oye, warned investors not to do any business with the mentioned persons or risk losing their investment, since any sale of land would be reversed if the appropriate channel is not used.

Asked how he felt about the current divisions in the family, he said it was a worrying development which needed to be dealt with before matters get out of hand.

“I have appealed to all members of the family who are by one way or the other aggrieved to come forward with their grievances because there is no way we can move forward if we are not united,” he said
