Akosombo(ER), Sept. 7, GNA - Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has condemned the recent political violence in Northern Region and called on the security agencies not to shield anyone found culpable. He said anyone arrested in connection with the violence irrespective of the person's political or ethnic background should be prosecuted. Rt-Rev. Frimpong-Manso made the call when addressing the opening session of the 70th Anniversary conference of Young People's Guild (YPG) of the Church at Akosombo. It is under the theme "Put on the whole armour of God". He said it was unfortunate that 16 years after uninterrupted democratic dispensation, the nation was experiencing such violence during electioneering campaigns and urged political activists to see themselves as one people with a common destiny and not consider each other as an enemy because of political differences. Rt-Rev. Frimpong-Manso said reports of violence and intolerance displayed by activists and supporters of political parties gave much cause for concern, and urged all religious bodies to be proactive and resist such acts in order not to destabilize the country. He advised the youth not to allow themselves to be manipulated by any selfish politician to cause confusion in the country before, during and after the general elections. "You are the future Presidents, Vice Presidents, Directors, Ministers and Members of Parliament and if you allow yourself to create confusion and destroy this country which people would you rule in future," he stressed. On the theme for the conference, Rt-Rev. Frimpong-Manso said his prayer was that all Christians in the church would realize God's purpose and power and come to appreciate the high goals that God had set for the church. He said "It is obvious that, becoming a Christian brings one into spiritual warfare with the devil, because the dualism of the kingdom of darkness against the kingdom of light was what Apostle Paul thought and wanted to draw the attention of his audience to the realities of the spiritual warfare." Mr Samuel Kwadwo Amoah Opare, National President of YPG, said, the YPG for the past 70 years had trained many people in various leadership positions in the church. It was formed in 1938 at Odumase Krobo in Dangbe Tongu Presbytery of the church by Mr McKeon Atkinson, a Scottish Missionary to bring the youth together in fellowship with Jesus Christ.
