Medical Officers, who accept to work in deprived areas for five years, would be given cars as part of an incentive package, Mr Moses Dani Baah, Deputy Minister of Health told the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Sunday.

He said the government was also to spend a sizeable chunk of its development budgetary allocation on the expansion of facilities in training institutions to produce personnel for health institutions in the rural areas.

Mr Baah, who was on a three-day working visit to the Upper West Region, said the government has approved the establishment of a post-graduate medical college to enable practising doctors and other para-medical staff to upgrade their qualifications locally.

The college would cut down the cost of training abroad, the Deputy Minister said adding that although it was difficult to stop the brain-drain in the health sector, the establishment of a post-graduate medical college in the country would turn out more professionals to meet the demand.
